Fort Collins is about forty minutes from us, north west of Greeley up the I-25 corridor or across on CO 14 and County Road 54. We work there as a mobile service. We are a Greeley business and there is no Fort Collins shop to walk into, so if that is what you want, this is not the right listing for you.
If you want the glass done at your house or your workplace, read on.
Being honest about the market here
Fort Collins is the most competitive auto glass market in northern Colorado. It is a bigger city than Greeley, it has more resident operators, and the national chains all cover it properly.
So the reasonable question is why use someone from Greeley. Two answers, and neither is that we are cheaper.
The first is that we do the calibration ourselves and you get the report. A lot of glass work in this region involves the camera calibration being subcontracted out, which is where paperwork goes missing and where nobody quite owns the result. That distinction is set out in national chain versus local auto glass.
The second is scheduling. Because Fort Collins is not our home turf we group jobs and book them properly, rather than squeezing you into a gap and arriving three hours late in an eight hour window.
I-25 is where the damage comes from
Most Fort Collins windshield damage we see was collected on I-25, and most of it on the stretch between Harmony Road and the Loveland exits.
CDOT has been widening and rebuilding this corridor in segments for years. Work zones put traffic closer together, remove the shoulder, leave temporary surfaces with loose aggregate, and add construction traffic to the mix, all while speeds stay high. The detail is in the commute guide, written for the Greeley to Denver run but describing the same corridor.
University town, mixed vehicle age
Like the university area in Greeley, Fort Collins has a wide spread of vehicle ages. That matters mainly for one question: whether your car needs camera calibration after a replacement.
If there is a camera housing behind your rear view mirror, it does, regardless of the age of the vehicle. If there is not, the job is simpler and cheaper. Worth checking before you compare quotes, because a quote that excludes calibration is not comparable to one that includes it.
What to ask any shop, here more than anywhere
In a competitive market the pressure to cut corners is higher, and glass failures are invisible at handover. Four questions sort it out:
- Which urethane, and is it rated for a vehicle with a passenger airbag?
- What is the drive-away time for my vehicle today, and will it be on the invoice?
- Who performs the calibration, where, and do I get the report?
- What does the warranty cover and for how long?
Background on why each matters is in what the AGSC safety standard means, how long before you can drive and what a windshield warranty covers.
