East Greeley is the older side of the 80631 ZIP: the residential grid east of 8th Avenue, running out past the Greeley-Weld County Airport towards the industrial corridor, the packing and processing plants, and the feedlots beyond the city limit.
It is also the part of Greeley where the vehicle we are working on is most often a work vehicle rather than a commuter car, and that changes how we schedule.
Work trucks and shift patterns
A lot of 80631 works shifts at the plants, in the yards, or out on well sites. The vehicle that needs glass is frequently the one that has to be somewhere at five in the morning.
Two things follow. First, we do a lot of work here at the home address rather than the workplace, because the truck is parked at home between shifts and that is the only window. Second, adhesive cure time is a real constraint rather than a formality.
Safe drive-away time depends on the adhesive and the conditions on the day, and in dry Colorado air it runs longer than the data sheet suggests. If you have to drive at five, the job cannot start at three. We will tell you a specific time rather than a standard one, and the reasoning is in how long before you can drive after a replacement.
US 85 runs through this side of town
8th Avenue becomes US 85, and the freight it carries is the main source of windshield damage in east Greeley. Gravel and aggregate out of the South Platte pits, sand and equipment heading to well sites, and agricultural loads moving to the feedlots and processors.
That traffic is heavy, loaded and running on tyres that pick up and throw stones. The corridor is covered in detail in why US 85 is hard on windshields, and the oilfield component in oilfield traffic and what it does to glass.
Harvest hits this side hardest
From late August through October the county roads east and north of here fill with beet and silage trucks, and east Greeley sits directly on the route between the fields and the feedlots.
September is consistently one of our busiest months for chip repair, and almost all of it is on this side of town. The timing detail that costs people money is in harvest season and why gravel damage spikes in September: a chip collected in September and left open until November usually does not survive the first hard freeze.
Fix it while it is a chip
This matters more in 80631 than anywhere else in the city, because the exposure is higher and the vehicles are worked harder.
Chip repair takes under half an hour, we do it at your address, and most Colorado insurers waive the deductible on a repair so it usually costs you nothing. A replacement costs real money and takes the vehicle out of service for longer.
Fleets and multiple vehicles
If you run several trucks out of a yard on this side, doing them one at a time in a shop is the most expensive way to handle it. We work at the yard. Arrangements are on fleet and commercial glass, heavier machinery on heavy equipment and ag glass, and class 8 units on semi truck windshield replacement.
